Henna hair color is 100% plant based and is a single ingredient product that is safe for your hair and skin. Use it to dye your hair or cover gray. You will have to mix henna and indigo in varying proportions for different colors. A little patience will reward you with healthy bouncy hair. Note: Pre-mixed packages of indigo and henna are not effective, as Henna takes 2-7 hours to develop (depending on room temperature/climatic conditions) and indigo develops in 3 minutes! Hence henna needs to be prepared for developing earlier than indigo, and then you will need to prep & mix in the desired amount of indigo just before you apply the hair dye mixture to your hair. Instructions: Proportions Of Henna & Indigo To Mix For Varying Colors 100% Henna =  Red 2/3 Henna + 1/3 Indigo = Burgundy 1/2 Henna + 1/2 Indigo = Dark Brown 2/3 Indigo + 1/3 Henna = Brown Henna Followed By Indigo In a 2-step Process = Darkest Brown To Black The more henna you use in the mixture, the closer the color will be to burgundy and deep red. The more indigo you use, the darker the shade will be - from browns to the deepest black. So, in other words, the above proportions are a guideline. You may also adjust proportions to create colors that are variations of the above. Do a strand test to figure out the exact shade you want.** It may sound like a bit of work compared to just picking up a box from the drug store, but a little a extra time invested to switch to a 100% pure, botanical product is in the best interest of keeping your hair healthy and bouncy long-term. How Much Product To Use? 50 grams of total product (if you're using a mix of henna and indigo, then the total should add up to 50 grams) will color your beard and mustache. 100 grams of total product will color short hair. 200 grams of total product will color shoulder length to mid-back length hair. 400 grams will color waist length hair. The proportions you need may vary depending on the thickness of your hair too. One packet of Natural Nirvaan henna hair color weighs 100 grams. How To Mix Henna Hair Dye & Color Your Hair With Pure Henna Mix henna with warm water and orange or lemon juice (more water, less juice or 8:2 ratio) to make a paste the consistency of yoghurt and let it develop for 8-12 hours. The juice of citrus fruits like oranges and lemons helps to draw out the color from henna, use orange juice if you want to use a milder version of citrus. Then apply to your hair in a thick layer. Cover with enclosed shower cap. Leave it on for 2-3 hours, rinse off under the shower until water runs clear. You can use a conditioner but you do not want to use shampoo at this time. The final color will show best on your hair after a couple of days. Please note that the warmer the temperature, the faster henna will develop. To speed up the development process, turn on your oven and set at 200 degrees, turn the oven off. Place a wooden cutting board or something that's a poor transmitter of heat on the oven rack and place the bowl of henna on top of it, as you don't want the high heat from the metal rack drying out your henna paste. Remember to cover the bowl with a lid or plastic wrap. Leave the henna in there for 2 hours for henna to develop, you can also leave the oven light on in cold weather conditions. And please don't forget to take the wooden cutting board out of the oven after you're done! How To Use Indigo & Henna Together Pre-prepare henna as described above and when ready to apply it to your hair, mix indigo powder with water and a pinch of salt separately (in another container/bowl) to make a paste the consistency of yoghurt. Add this immediately to the pre-prepared henna paste and mix well so the two pastes have blended well to form a uniform color (developed henna has a brown color and indigo paste is dark green). As soon as the paste has blended into an uniform color, put on the enclosed gloves and apply the paste to your hair. Cover your head with the enclosed shower cap. Leave it on for 2-3 hours. Rinse off well under the shower and wash the remaining paste off with a conditioner. True hair color will settle in after a few days. Use the same process described above for beard and mustache and cover with plastic wrap. *Important: Please note, that your hair color results will depend on your original hair color and it's variations in shade. Henna is a translucent dye that binds to your hair protein to create the resulting shade. So your hair color results will be your very own and naturally beautiful! **How To Do A Strand Test? Collect the hair from your hairbrush and follow the same directions above to make a paste with a small amount of product, apply prepared paste to the collected hair, wash, dry and see if it's the color you want. Covering stubborn grays: Please apply extra product on your grays, especially on the grays on the edges of your facial hairline. How To Test For Individual Allergies Why test for allergies if this is a 100% plant based product? Remember people can be allergic to natural stuff too, peanuts are natural! So, it's better to always be cautious if you have sensitive skin. Use a small portion of the powder and follow the instructions above to make a paste, after the paste has developed apply to inner elbow, leave it on for an hour. If no itching or adverse reactions occur, you should be fine.
